Capitalized by a consortium of leading financial institutions, the organization provides financing for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and preservation of affordable multifamily housing while supporting neighborhood revitalization and economic development.
The organization has originated more than $1.8 billion in financing, manages an active loan servicing portfolio of approximately $300 million, and annually originates approximately $60 million in new loans. The organization operates with a strong reputation for financial stewardship, lending expertise, and mission impact.
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic and operational financial leadership during a transitional period. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Interim CFO will oversee all financial operations while providing executive oversight of Human Resources, Information Technology, and Loan Servicing.
The successful candidate will ensure financial stability, maintain strong internal controls, support lending and servicing operations, and partner with the executive team and Board of Directors on strategic initiatives.
This assignment is expected to provide continuity of leadership while supporting the organization through ongoing operations and the search for a permanent CFO.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Lead all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and cash management activities.
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Oversee annual audit, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor organizational liquidity, investment performance, and capital resources.
- Present financial results and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the Board.
Loan Portfolio Oversight
- Provide executive oversight of a performing loan portfolio of approximately $300 million.
- Partner with lending leadership to monitor portfolio performance, asset quality, loan loss reserves, and risk management.
- Support annual loan originations of approximately $55–65 million.
- Ensure strong servicing controls and reporting.
Human Resources
- Provide executive oversight of Human Resources.
- Support organizational planning, employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, and talent management.
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations and organizational policies.
Information Technology
- Oversee the organization's technology strategy and IT operations.
- Ensure appropriate cybersecurity, infrastructure, disaster recovery, and technology vendor management.
- Support technology initiatives that improve operational efficiency.
Loan Servicing Operations
- Provide strategic oversight of loan servicing operations.
- Ensure accurate payment processing, reporting, escrow administration, and servicing compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer service.
Leadership
- Mentor and develop finance and administrative staff.
- Partner with department leaders to improve organizational performance.
- Foster collaboration across finance, operations, lending, servicing, HR, and IT.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Prior experience serving as CFO, Interim CFO, or senior finance executive.
- Experience within nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, commercial banking, CDFIs, affordable housing finance, or specialty lending organizations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, internal controls, treasury management, and financial reporting.
- Experience overseeing multiple administrative functions beyond finance, including Human Resources and Information Technology.
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizations through periods of transition.

The successful candidate will bring a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on execution. They will possess excellent judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to quickly establish credibility with senior leadership, staff, lenders, auditors, and the Board of Directors.
Experience overseeing finance within lending or loan servicing organizations, coupled with the ability to lead cross-functional administrative teams, will be highly valued.
