VP of Finance
Role Overview
Our client is a private equity-backed, multi-brand consumer health and wellness platform with a portfolio of established brands sold through DTC, Amazon, and retail/B2B channels.
The company is seeking a VP of Finance to serve as its senior finance executive and own both Controllership and FP&A. This is a hands-on leadership role for a finance executive who can operate effectively in a leveraged, growth-oriented environment while simultaneously strengthening the company's accounting infrastructure, financial reporting, forecasting, and decision support.
The ideal candidate has meaningful DTC and e-commerce experience, understands the economics of consumer products, and has successfully built or upgraded finance functions in businesses with multiple brands and sales channels.
This is an improve-and-run mandate: the VP of Finance will lead the live monthly close, lender reporting, cash management, budgeting and forecasting while building a more scalable finance organization and improving the company's systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Controllership & Accounting
- Own the monthly close and production of GAAP-basis consolidated and brand-level financial statements.
- Establish repeatable close processes, controls, policies, and a close calendar that improve accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure financial statement integrity and that underlying financial data is accurate, complete, and supportable.
- Oversee cash management, working capital, AP strategy, and vendor terms.
- Own the rolling cash flow forecast and liquidity planning process.
- Serve as the primary finance contact for the company's lender and other external financial stakeholders, including preparation of required financial reporting and covenant calculations.
- Maintain appropriate controls and documentation to support annual audits, lender diligence, and other third-party requirements.
- Oversee tax compliance in partnership with external advisors.
- Improve utilization of the company's existing ERP, e-commerce, marketplace, and reporting systems, reducing manual spreadsheet-driven processes wherever possible.
- Evaluate new systems and tools selectively, prioritizing practical automation and scalability.
- Build and develop the accounting organization, including hiring and managing a Controller and developing existing accounting and offshore resources.
FP&A & Business Partnership
- Build and lead the FP&A function, including annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, and long-range planning.
- Develop consolidated and brand/channel-level reporting across DTC, Amazon, and retail/B2B.
- Own contribution profit and Adjusted EBITDA analysis by brand and channel, including drivers such as volume/mix, discounting, COGS, fulfillment, commissions, and advertising.
- Partner with the CEO and brand leadership to improve profitability, marketing efficiency, and operating discipline.
- Establish and institutionalize key consumer/e-commerce metrics including CAC, AOV, TACoS, contribution margin, customer retention, subscription mix, inventory turns, and channel mix.
- Develop consistent KPI definitions and reporting standards across the organization.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages for the CEO, Board, and private equity sponsor.
- Own the annual budget and multi-year financial model, including debt service, interest expense, liquidity, and covenant forecasting.
- Lead scenario planning and cash-flow forecasting.
- Automate recurring reporting and dashboards by better leveraging existing system capabilities and data feeds.
- Support strategic and ad hoc analysis, including M&A, new channel opportunities, pricing, marketing investment, and other initiatives.
First 90 Days
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Take ownership of the monthly close and improve the reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Establish a repeatable monthly FP&A reporting package covering budget vs. actuals, contribution profit, and Adjusted EBITDA.
- Assess the existing accounting organization and hire/build the appropriate Controller-level leadership.
- Refine the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and establish a disciplined working-capital management process.
- Establish consistent definitions and reporting around marketing efficiency and profitability.
- Identify manual finance processes and implement near-term automation opportunities using existing systems and data infrastructure.
- Establish a clear roadmap for strengthening the overall finance function.
